Richard McKee studied Classics at Cambridge and Linguistics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, thereafter becoming a college lecturer. He decided to make a career change by becoming a barrister rather late in life, and has specialised in Immigration Law since 1993, representing clients across the full range of immigration, asylum and nationality matters, and providing a monthly Update on immigration law which was widely read by practitioners and by the appellate authorities.
He started hearing immigration appeals himself as an adjudicator in 2000, and eventually became a judge of the Upper Tribunal, retiring from the bench in 2014.
He still writes extensively on Immigration law for publications such as Butterworths Immigration Law Service and teaches students who are taking the immigration law module of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives examinations.
He also provides consultancy and advocacy services for London Law Solicitors.
